What Is a Cyst?

Unusual bumps or lumps found anywhere on the body generally cause an individual great concern; however, there are many health conditions that involve the formation of small knobs or bulges beneath the skin that are of little concern. Cysts are one such condition that cause slight bumps or lumps that are typically not harmful to the health. Noncancerous, closed pockets of tissue, cysts are typically filled with air, fluid or other bodily material and generally feel like a large pea or small marble beneath the skin. In contrast, a sac filled with pus is an abscess, not a cyst.

While a growth beneath the skin can be alarming, the symptoms of cysts cause little concern for good reason. Most cysts are slow-growing, painless, and smooth to the touch. Cysts generally feel “mobile” beneath the skin or can be moved around to some extent. In some severe cases, cysts do rupture, causing pain and possibly inflammation. Generally, cysts form as a result of interrupted bodily functions. Cysts typically form due to clogged sebaceous glands, infection, or around foreign bodies such as an earring post.

Natural Cyst Treatments

Most cysts go away naturally and require little treatment. Some cysts, however, may require treatment to decrease in size and prevent infection. Most cysts respond well to natural treatments including apple cider vinegar, iodine, magnesium oil, turmeric, hydrogen peroxide and honey. Vitamin D3 and colloidal silver taken together daily also diminish the size of common cysts and offer relief to most types of cysts.

Fenugreek, bayberry, and bee pollen are also known for their anti-inflammatory properties and ability to treat and heal cysts. Cleansing the body using clay tablets also helps remove any infection causing toxins. Keep reading below for more tips from Earth Clinic readers!

[YEA]  01/12/2013: Boilbb from Anonymous: "I had a re-ocurring small groin cyst that wouldn't heal. I would sometimes get small re-ocurring ones on my lower belly too. Sometimes it would come to a head but still a soft marble existed below the skin. I tried so many different remedies (at different times) from apple cider vinegar to iodine to magnesium oil, turmeric, hydrogen peroxide, etc. Honey would help it close up. When I used T____ [anti-fungal cream] on them for a week or so, they all healed. I had a feeling the groin boil might be fungal related because it itched a lot. It is worth a try if other things aren't working. I also found it slightly aphrodisiac qualities."

10/31/2013: Cathy from Boynton Beach, Fl replies: "Guess what? The main ingredient in that medicine is undecylenic acid, an organic unsaturated fatty acid, directly derived from castor oil!"

Apple Cider Vinegar

10/24/2010: Tish from Toronto, Ontario, canada: "Hey petra from trinidad, i would be very careful using the commercial vinegar. the ones u get in the grocery stores are way too acidic. my nephew tried for a sore throat and ended up with inflamation. so please find one that says organic vinegar unpaturised, u get them at stores where u buy organic stuff. hope this helped."

[YEA]  04/04/2012: Margie from Austin, Texas: "For those of you that have problems with acne, you should try this. Buy a bee pollen complex that has pollen, bee propolis, and royal jelly that is 1000 mg. This cured the acne on my husband's back and for a couple other people I recommended it to. I discovered it by accident and upon doing some research found that it is a blood purifier which is why it probably works."

[YEA]  02/17/2014: Lynn from Canada: "I applied bloodroot paste to my cysts and it slowly works to create an eschar around the entire cyst, including the sac and then it falls off. I apply it directly to the cyst and put a bandage over it. I leave it on for a day and check on it, then reapply and bandage again. I keep reapplying for at least 4 days or so, or until I feel a lot of swelling. At that point there may be a bit of oozing from the cyst liquifying and pushing its way out from all the pressure of the swelling. It's optional to continue applying the salve depending on your comfort level and whether it stings too much. Eventually by about day 6 or 7 the cyst will fall out on its own, or with a little pulling with sterilized tweezers. It leaves a large crater at the site, but eventually this fills in completely and with almost no scarring. I am finding discolouration from the site, like any other scar, but the area is now flat and there is no indication of any part of the cyst left.

I did find one cyst on my neck wasn't completely removed, so I did a second treatment with the bloodroot salve after it healed completely. Sure enough, it found the area with any cyst material and surrounded it. That too fell out and I'm hoping I got all of it this time around.

Not only does this work great for deeply embedded cysts, my sister found it worked great for removing a mole on her arm. The exact same application was followed, although she may have had to leave it on a bit longer than I did for my cysts. By about a week and a half the mole just came off on its own with a little help with tweezers.

During the healing process I felt what was probably scar tissue, so I did try reapplying on my elbow but found no reaction. It left a bit of a chemical burn, but nothing major, just uncomfortable itching. I've also tried on other miscellaneous scar tissue/bumps and it didn't do anything but leave a slight stinging sensation and discolouration (that eventually disappeared.)"

Castor Oil

[YEA]  03/12/2014: Kacy from New York: "I found a humungous cyst about 10 days ago above my butt (sorry to be gross, but that's where it is), was quite alarmed and looked online and was relieved to find it was something called a pilonidal cyst. I felt how wide it went underneath my skin and it was maybe 2.5", like a volcano forming! It was nice to know it wasn't anything serious, but not so great to read everywhere that I'd need surgery or to go on antibiotics. Anyway, I happened to be on earthclinic for treatment for wrinkle cures, saw castor oil, and then upon further reading saw it was also recommended for removing cysts! A great coincidence!!

I ordered castor oil on amazon (cold-pressed, but I dont know if that matters) and didn't even make a castor oil pack. I have just been rubbing castor oil straight on the cyst with my fingers a few times a day. Within days, it has drastically reduced in size and it is almost completely gone. I'm not sure HOW this is happening, nothing is coming out. It's just...dissapearing!

A doctor took a look at it (i as going to a doc for another reason) and she looked shocked. She couldn't believe castor oil could just get rid of it like that so quickly, as when I had previously emailed her about it before I met her she too told me I'd need surgery or antibiotics. When I met her in person and she saw it, she said "dont go on antibiotics or get surgery! Just keep doing what youre doing! " and indeed it is almost gone. Within days. No medicine, no surgery, no embarrasment. and CHEAP. and the stuff makes my skin look amazing too. I've never even heard of castor oil before earthclinic. I saw so many posts on all the other sites where people talked of getting surgery, etc etc. This is incredible, it bypasses all that trouble, expense, and pain.

I would LOVE to know how castor oil works, but wow does it ever. In a few more days it should be completely gone. THANKS to all of you who posted and let me know about this cure!!!! I used to get sebaceous cysts on my head, and if I ever get them back, castor oil will be the first thing I do! Good luck everyone!"

[YEA]  02/08/2014: Sonja from Florida: "My husband had a small bump in the middle of his back. I read about castor oil packets. We soaked some fabric with the oil, then covered with plastic , then applied heating pad for 30 minutes. Did this every night for about 5 days. The bump started getting bigger, after a few weeks it was completely gone. I believe it was a sebacious cyst"

[YEA]  10/17/2013: Janie Y from Illinois: "I was born with a very rare disease called Pachyonychia Congenita which causes problems with the hair, nails, and skin. I am more susceptible to skin problems, one of which is being very prone to (sebaceous) cysts. I was excited to try the castor oil remedy that is being mentioned on this wonderful website! I have had a good-sized (very noticeable) cyst in the outer corner of my left eye for more than two years now. The outer part appeared plump and soft to the touch, somewhat yellowish in color, and puffy. I could see and feel the hard-like fluid inside of it, but while poking at it down deep, I could feel what felt like a pea. I had messed with with before, but had given up - Seemed I wouldn't excrete the substance underneath it very well. The stuff was very hard to get out. I would always get a little liquid from it and a little blood, causing it to swell up a bit, then got it infected... I thought it useless to try anymore, so I just left it alone. That is until I discovered the Castor OIL Remedyl!!! Anyways, after reading the posts here, I decided to tackle it again. On Sept. 1st, I started poking around at the cyst, squeezed at it, and got it to secrete some oily like substance and some blood out of it. It was still hard though! I musta messed with it for about an hour. It was really swelled up great by then. It looked like someone had punched me in the eye ( I was squinting by the time I was finished with my treatment of it for the day)! I was determined however, to march on... Well, after poking and prodding at it for an hour, I cleaned it up, rinsed it with warm water, dried it, then dabbed it with the castor oil, and covered it up with a bandage. I did this twice a day. Morning and night. I squeezed it each time, to get more liquid and blood out of it, and then repeated the castor oil/bandage thing. About 7 days later, Sept. 7, the cyst and my eye were still puffy (I got a lot of stares), , but I could tell that the cyst was getting a smaller. The castor oil was softening it up, which made it easier for me to squeeze the substance out of it! It was coming out pretty good by then, with hardly any effort on my part by that time. I could tell that the castor oil was really pulling the stuff out and causing the cyst to drain more! I continued this for about two more weeks. I could really see a big difference by then, so that was great for me. I was trying to be soooo patient, seein' as how patience is not one of my better virtues! After all, I told myself - I did have this thing by my eye for at least two years! By week 3, my eye was looking normal again. The puffiness/swelling was all gone - the liquid was drained from the cyst. The area felt flat! And, it was starting to scab over. All that was left of the cyst was this little pea- sized knot by then). I continued to rub and massage the castor oil into this area each morning and every night before going to bed. I woke up one morning - Sept. 26... to find a small "pimple" had formed in the spot where the cyst was. I squeezed it, and this stringy thread- like substance snaked it's way out. This was the "pea" that I had been feeling for the last two years! I write this on Oct. 17th, and as I run my finger over where the cyst had been... I smile (: The cyst had been my unwelcoming companion for the past two years or so, and it is NOW completely gone, and has been for a couple weeks! The area around my eye is nice and smooth. Yayyyyyy.... Oh - I might also add that... During the time that I was treating this particular cyst, I had several smaller ones on my face, as well. I would massage the castor oil into them all the while and... They are gone too!!! This will now become my ritual for every cyst I see poppin' up on my bod!! We gotta "Zap em before they Happen".. Castor Oil is definately the trick! Thanks be to you guys who write in with your wonderful remedies!!! Have a great "Cyst-free" day!!!"

12/10/2011: Hef from Mississauga, Ontario: "I was wondering if any one has experience in using Castor Oil packs on Submandibular cysts.... My nephew has a cyst below his jawbone, which is growing ENT Surgeon has recommeded surgery removal. To me it sounds very convincing to use the packs on the cysts... Anyone else would like to share their experiences in this regard and suggest any pros or cons, if any?"

02/15/2013: Kmcgee from Portland, Oregon replies: "I had surgery on a cyst that was located on my neck. It got very big and uncomfortable. So I had it removed. The surgery was easy and over in an hour, but eventually the cyst came back. My docter warned me this might happen, but not much is known about cysts. It hasn't got really big again but comes and goes. I think the surgery is worth a shot."

[YEA]  02/28/2011: Brooke from Montgomery, Tx, Usa: "I have had a small milia on my right eye for about 6 months. I have been putting Castor Oil on it, and it is gone. I put the Castor Oil on it with the intent that the Milia goes away, and viola! It went away! It took a long time, about 6 months, but no medicine and no Doctor!"

02/08/2012: Bridget from Russellville, Kentucky replies: "I have a bump near my eye that randomly popped up about 6 months ago. At first I thought it was a infected pimple and tried to pop it swelled and became very big. After a few weeks of leaving it alone it went back down. A lot of people say it could be a wart but a pharmacist told me to not use the wart removal because she never seen a wart look like that. Looked more of a cyst. I've tried everything.. I've read alot of people say use castor oil on here. DOES IT WORK?? What are the pros and cons of using?! Thanks!"

[YEA]  02/09/2012: Joyce from Lansdowne, Pa replies: "Last Saturday night I was about to get into the shower and I looked in the mirror and noticed a bump (sty) on my lower eyelid. It itched slightly. I took a q-tip with some castor oil and applied it to my eyelid. The next morning the bump (sty) was no longer there."

[YEA]  02/09/2012: Alan from Homestead, Fl. replies: "Castor oil has worked for me in this very application on many occasions. Put it on heavy and keep covered with a band-aid. If you search this out you will find it can be used for many EXTERNAL applications with amazing results."

05/02/2012: Maggie from Lansing, Mi replies: "My husband has been taking _____s apple cider vinegar for about 6 months, and olive leaf extract for two months. Suddenly his body is like a sebaceous cyst factory. They are popping up everywhere. He has had 3 removed, we got rid of the infected one with castor oil and manuka honey, and just today he showed me a new cyst on the back of his neck. These cysts have just kind of appeared on stage and I'm wondering if the vinegar and OLE have created a detox or cleansing thing in his body and the toxins are coming out as cysts. What do you think?"

05/02/2012: Sara from The Beach, Canada replies: "One thing is certain when you take these things is that you have to take a lot of water with it as well so that the toxins have an avenue to release in... Otherwise they will find their own way, and they do it through the largest organ... The skin"

[YEA]  12/26/2010: Abigail from Lawrence, Ks: "I developed a sebaceous cyst on my back about 1-1/2 inches in diameter! I had it checked by a Dr., who said it was just a sebaceous cyst and wasn't dangerous, and there's not much they can do about it. She said even when people get them surgically removed, the cysts sometimes come back. When I got pregnant the cyst started itching and got bigger and turned red and purple. This concerned me. My midwife sad that all the extra hormones during pregnancy can cause cysts to behave like this. She suggested trying castor oil, and warned that it might take awhile to fully go away.

Here's what I did:
Squirt some pure cold-pressed castor oil onto a cotton round pad. Apply the pad to the cyst. Apply medical tape to hold the pad in place. Change the pad once or twice a day. Sometimes when changing the pad there would be yellowish pus on the pad. Sometimes there was nothing. The castor oil did at least relieve the itching, but there were days I thought that this wasn't working.
However, the cyst was actually slowly deflating. It took about three months, but the cyst went away! I still have a small, very light red circle on my back where it was, but the skin is flat and smooth, and I never have any itching. It's been gone for about 2-1/2 months now, so I think the cure was effective."

12/26/2010: Diane from Berkeley, Ca replies: "I had about 10 of them on my scalp for years. Tried a lot of things, none of them very effective, and finally chose surgery. I am so glad that I did. It's super easy (typically done in a dermatologist's office in less than an hour), and a HUGE relief to have it all gone. One started to come back, but I was able to extract its core and it went away after that. None of the others have come back, and it has been five years. Honestly, it wasn't worth all the mental anguish over a decade trying tons of things and hoping they would go away. Surgery was by far the best choice."

[YEA]  09/12/2011: Daisy from Jacksonville, Florida, U.s.a replies: "I have a small cyst on my face that I have been ignoring for at least a year, but then got hard and started to be annoying. I have no insurance right now, and money is VERY tight, so laying out hundreds of dollars to have it cut out is not an option right now. I've tried a number of things -- iodine, tiger balm, campho-phenique, coconut oil -- but the only thing that even remotely began to be of assistance was holding a hot compress to it for 10-20 minutes twice a day. After a couple of days, it softened it up to the extent that I could get some of the gack out, but only with *tremendous* pressure, and not enough came out to make a significant difference anyway. Repeated efforts didn't do much; it's like whatever got hard in there stayed hard and the heat only got to a small part of it, no matter how often or for how long I applied the hot compress. (I think this is because I ignored it and let it get old and hard, instead of dealing with it when I first got it. ) I didn't want to break the skin over it or get it infected, so I stopped mashing on it and kept looking for something else.

I saw the posts here on EC about castor oil, and after googling for more info I saw where it had worked for other people with stubborn sebaceous cysts, so I got some castor oil and put it on under a band-aid before going to sleep. Already, just after the first application, it's drawing the cyst up and out and softening whatever's in there: it never hurt before, but it did a little after putting the castor oil on, kind of like a tiny bruise, and then when I woke up and took off the band-aid, a bunch of nasty-looking stuff came out with almost no pressure. It's not gone at all, but it's flatter and the castor oil is definitely working to break it up. Many thanks to Abigail from Lawrence, Kansas for taking the time to describe exactly what she did, because that's what I'm doing and it's already working after so much else has failed.

Thanks, EC!"

09/16/2011: Daisy from Jacksonville, Florida, U.s.a replies: "Update to my last post: you can go ahead and call it a cure! I have been applying a bit of gauze saturated with castor oil to the cyst morning and night, and every time I change the bandage I try to express whatever's in there. Over the last several days, slowly but surely, most of it has come out (there was even a hair buried in there! ?! ) and now whatever comes out is mostly clear.

One thing that became obvious is that it was a lot deeper and more substantial than I gave it credit for. I think it must have had a few loculations too, because when I'd try to express it I'd change the direction of my fingers, and then feel a little pop and get more stuff out. It was a nasty and complex cyst.

I'm going to keep going with it for the next few days, but the area is already flattened out and just about gone altogether, which is what I was hoping for. Will it come back because I didn't get the sac? No idea, but today I'm thrilled that I no longer have the pea-sized lump on my cheek!

Thanks, EC!"

09/14/2013: Alice from Oakland, California replies: "Thanks everyone. I tried all of the remedies and then some. When my skin got so sore and it hadn't popped yet, after about a week, I put on some Vitamin E overnight. The next morning it popped though still had lots of hard areas around it. In the following days, whenever I was home I either used hot water soaks, vitamin E or Castor Oil and a heating pad. For the work day, I tried to dry it with calamine and witch hazel mixture covered by a gauze. I seem to need to massage the hard parts after I heat the area and kind of push toward the head to get all of the puss out. I've been doing this for over a week now, but I think it's almost flat. Did not get the core out though. Also, about a week ago, I went to the dr for antibiotics because it was so infected. I think that is one reason it didn't get too much bigger and I felt better mentally because I've had ones that just kept growing and they are so painful. This is definitely a time committment, but at least it's not surgery."

[YEA]  03/17/2009: Philippa from Surrey, BC, Canada: "I have problems with cysts/ganglia developing on my wrists and finger joints. I usually have to have them removed surgically. This was a real problem as I had to limit activity and keep the surgery site dry for several weeks after each surgery - not to mention the pain.

I had started developing another cyst on my left wrist that was becoming big enough to be considered my parasitic twin. I was putting off having it looked at due to the pain, the surgery, the inconvenience, etc.

I had previously been taking Terramin Clay tablets (1 tablet per 50 lb. of weight) to help cleanse my system; but, had stopped for some unknown reason. I started taking the clay tablets again without realizing that they could help my cyst.

Over a period of several days, my cyst shrank and disappeared. I had no idea how it happened; but, was delighted nonetheless. Two days later I happened to stumble upon the Terramin site at a place that was explaining how the clay in the tablets was small enough to break through the blood/tissue barrier. These particles were so small they had the ability to enter the cyst, start cleansing it and eventually remove it.

I'm back on my clay and loving it!"

11/22/2010: Nancy from Boston, Us replies: "Hi I am very interested in your post about taking clay tablets for the shrinkage of cysts... Was this for a Baker's cyst behind the knee... If so how long did it take to shrink?
I have one behind the knee that is causing me a lot of pain right now... The pain is intermittent but am anxious to find a home remedy that really works... Thanks so much for sharing what worked for you!"

Dandelion and Viola

01/22/2012: Heather from Ny: "Infected Sebaceous Cyst

Epidermal cyst; Keratin cyst; Epidermoid cyst

Any MD will automatically give you antibiotics for an infection! Try this instead. Dandelion and Viola clear out toxins in your body and will get rid of the infection. If you have a sensitive stomach you may want to eat before drinking the remedy.

Remedy: Go to Chinese Herb Shop. Get 8-10 bags of a mix of Dandelion and Viola. Each day bring to a boil one bag of herbs in 4 cups of water and then simmer for 45 minutes. Drink this mixture throughout the day and also wash the cysts with this mixture. (I even took some of the warm herbs and put them on my cysts for 10-15 minutes) Make sure to finish the herbs even after the cyst is gone. (drink herbs for 8 - 10 days) Amazing!"

Dermoid Cyst Remedies

04/22/2013: Snehanshu from Kolkata, Westbengal: "Sir, I have been suffering from painless cyst/tumor on my forhead for last four years.

Initially it was very hard and small in size. But now it has grown to 3.0 cm. Surgeons have diagnosed it as a benign growth and recommended for surgery. But I don't want to go for any surgery. Meanwhile I have undergone various homeo treatment but without yielding any positive result excepting that the cyst which was very hard has now become little bit softer Homeo medicines that I have already taken under Registered Practitioner are L.V. Alb., Canghis, Calc. Fluor., Slirrhinn, Phosphorus, Nat. Mur., Acid Fluor., Conium Mac., Tub. Borium, Thuja, Baryta Carb30, Aurum Metallicum 200, Medorrhinum, etc..

I shall remain ever grateful if you suggest the remedy.

Allopath surgeons have diagnosed it as Dermoid Cyst while homeopaths term it Lipoma.

One of my friends have advised me to take Thiosinaminium 6x.

Regards, Snehanshu"

04/22/2013: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Snehanshu... Ted from Bangkok advises using a topical mixture to be applied to the lipoma consisting of DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide), clove oil and castor oil in the following mix:

DMSO 70%
Castor Oil 25%
Clove Oil 5%

Ted also advises treating with supplements like bromelain (a protein digesting enzyme which acts to digest and remove the cyst), Vitamin B3 as niacinamide and L-Lysine. Dosages etc are shown in this link:

Stay away from dairy foods like milk, yoghurt, cheeses etc because excess calcium in the diet actually promotes cyst formation. Take regular daily dosages of Kelp seaweed as well if you can -- this contains iodine which also has anti-cyst activity.

Supplementing Black Seed Oil (Latin: Nigella sativa) for cancers and cysts is also useful. You should have no trouble finding Black Seed Oil -- called Kalaumji in Hindi/Urdu - where you live in India. But be sure and get the organic pressed black seed oil. I have been taking a tablespoon of black seed oil with food every day which has successfully reduced and flattened a small sebhorreic cyst on the back of my neck.

From all the research, it also appears that black seed is capable of healing allergy problems -- in other words black seed acts to heal the intestines thus preventing foreign protein bodies leaking from a damaged intestines into the blood -- creating allergies.

[YEA]  12/19/2013: Jane from Michigan: "Batholin Cysts are a tricky thing. For one thing, doctors just want to poke holes in you, and for another, there isn't much out there on how to effectively deal with these.

I have had 2 bouts of a cyst over the course of 2 years. They were both badly infected, and painful, and I healed from both of them using home remedies.

I think its imperative first off that women look at the root cause of this issue. I know for sure that these cysts are formed as a byproduct of sex - and on each account when mine have formed I have been stressed, and not "in the moment" of sexual acts. This is stressful on your body. If you aren't feeling 100% pleasured by sexual experiences with your partner, its important to have these communications. If you are having sex and thinking about a million other things, its important to do things to relax, and "get into the mood". Things just work better that way. And if you feel soreness after sex, be proactive about it. Don't push your body past its comfort, and manage your stress. There are great herbs you can take to increase your sexual urge, such as an awesome formulation from Jing Herbs called Three Sisters. I take this every day, and right before sexual intercourse to really make sure my body is prepped, and that I will be producing adequate fluids in a healthy way.

So. For treatment of a bartholin cyst, I suggest to stop eating all processed sugars, dairy, & grains, and start eating/drinking lots of vegetables and fruits. Think green smoothies, and cooked veggies. You will need to load up on pro-biotic rich foods & supplements such as organic sour kraut, kim chi, coconut water kefir, or just general very high quality supplemental probiotics. You can treat yourself with honey and stevia chai smoothies if you need something sweet. But this is very important. It is also important that you mentally prepare to REST. Give yourself 3-5 days to deal with this, and allow yourself this.

What helped the infection most is douching with Silver Sol & Apple Cider Vinegar. Silver Sol will knock out infections, but it is more expensive. I took Silver Sol internally 6-8 times per day, and douched with it once every 2 hours for the first 2 days. Once the swelling & pain started to drastically come down, I started douching with Apple Cider Vinegar. The best way to do either of these douches is with a medicinal squeeze top tube - the kind that comes in a lot of herbal tincture bottles. For the ACV I mixed 1/2 cup of ACV with 1 cup of warm water, and used this throughout the day, on the hour.

The douches will knock out a lot of the infection & help with the pain. You will most likely notice changes happening quickly. Make sure that if you are in pain, that you are taking Silver Sol internally as well, in order to keep your whole system strong. Also be sure to be taking powerful strains of Probiotics, and treating our body extra well with nourishing foods. While you are resting and healing, consider the possible causes of the issue, and allow yourself to let go of anger & any resentments that you may be harboring towards your partner, or life in general.

To help with letting go of the emotional aspects that are so highly related to this issue, taking Epsom Salt baths will clear these emotions and toxic energies from your body. Allow yourself to soak in them for at least 20 minutes once a day. You will probably feel like crying~ allow yourself to do so. Being real with yourself about your feelings, and expressing them will quicken your healing, and help to eliminate these issues in the future."

Ear Cyst Remedies

10/05/2013: Cindy from Cochrane: "I would be grateful for information on remedies for a cyst I have been diagnosed with on a nerve ending in my ear. The past two months I have been to ER three times with severe vomiting attacks thought to be from meniere's disease and an MRI showing the cyst, though the doc doesn't seem to think it is causing me these problems. Does any one know what to do for meniere's or have information on chinese herbs for congestion in the ear and or dissolve the cyst? Thank you so much. I am feeling totally helpless with this situation and worried about keeping my job from having to leave work when one of these attacks comes on."

10/05/2013: Dave from Fountain Inn, Sc replies: "Cindy,

About the inner ear problem... You can find some sources on the internet that mention a viral connect to the inner ear issue; the semi-circular cannals/ or labyrinth/ or endolymphatic sac... Can get virally infected. This condition can cause your vertigo and might have nothing to do with the cyst or the cyst might be a manifestation of the infection; assuming an infection is the cause.

My favorite for getting rid of an inner ear infection is colloidal silver. Obtained on line or at a health food store. Use an ear syringe to squirt into ear, gently the first time. Repeat twice daily for a week.

A cyst can be caused by any number of things, but a good guess is that the same thing causing the menieres diagnosis you got may be the root cause of the cyst.

Other posts about infection include the use of tea tree oil, hydrogen peroxide and even apple cider vinegar. Those are anti virals. Look on the "ailments" section of Earth Clinic under ear infection or menieres and you'll find good posts.

Still my fav is CS for knocking out an ear infection is CS.

By the way, when you use the syringe make sure you are physically secure because the liquid going into the ear will REALLY make you dizzy especially given that you already have vertigo.

·                     Eliminate Gluten

02/27/2012: Gorettia from Lena, Louisiana: "Just want to help anyone suffering from chronic painful cysts... Gluten intolerance may be your problem. It was mine. After YEARS of fighting a loosing battle, my bloodwork came back positive for celiac (over the limit anitbodies showed up). I had to give up soy, dairy, sugar, gluten, wheat, yeast, and most starchy foods like white potatoes, corn and beans...

But I thoroughly enjoy healthy eating... Broccoli, cabbage, carrots, sweet potatoes, lean ground beef, salmon, turkey and a few other foods.

For years dermatologist told me diet had nothing to do with it... But I am now convinced diet has everything to do with it ... Plus getting your stomach in good working order. Pantothenic acid (b5) in 500 mg per day and acidipholus and digestive enzymes are a must in my daily regimin.

Just hope I can help someone else with this advice... Give up the junk food and gluten and see if it helps. God revealed to me what I needed to do... So I give him all the praise and glory for my progress. Believe it or not, I now actually like the taste of FOOD without all the sauces, toppings and added "stuff" we destroy it with. Blessings!!! In the name of my Lord Jesus Christ!!!"

03/12/2013: Joelle from Price, Utah replies: "My daughter has one of these cysts, and unfortunately she is already gluten and dairy intolerant, and she's not eating grains or sugar right how either. I am wondering if this is some how her body doing a little bit of a cleanse. She drinks a ton of water because her body is not producing the horomone to retain the water. I am going to suggest the castor oil and maybe some lemon, oregano and melaleuca essential oils."

03/14/2013: Joy from Battleground, Wash replies: "Salt holds the water in the cells, so a good sea salt with iodine would probably help, and a multi mineral and a good mutli vitamin because she has been drinking a lot of water. When you go to the emergency room they give you a salt and potassium IV with water and most people feel a lot better after that and go home. She could get some pediolite to start out.

Coconut oil is amazing if she can tolerate it. Put some in oatmeal or drink in hot cocoa. Start slow because there can be die off symptoms."

[YEA]  12/21/2010: Ashley from Houston, Tx: "Hi I too suffer from vaginal cyst they were always on the side. I have had this problem since I was 13 I am 20 yrs old now. The first time I got it I was so terrified especially me being at the age 13 I didn't know what the crap was going on. I had it for a whole week until my mom finally noticed that I was walking funny and couldn't sit down right. So I went to the doctor and got it sorted out. I literally had about 50 of them and let me tell you it was so not comfortable.

Here are some tips that helped me get a hold on this situation. First you can use about 2 1/2 cups of Epsom salt in warm water. Then when it is time for bed use a heating pad and put it in between your legs that usually helps. Also shave down there that has helped me a lot and use vaginal wash those are most what helped me. Trust me on this because no one wants to go to a doctor and get it popped."

11/09/2011: Mjb from Arlington, Virginia replies: "I'm not trying to be rude but aside from the epsom soak everything sounds like a horrible idea. The shaving and vaginal wash thing will cause a whole bundle of other problems like infection in and outside the vagina. ( yeast ect. ) And shaving can cause follicitus which can lead to blocking and locking in sebum leading to a cyst... I know this because I've accidentally done this to myself because I was uninformed. Seriously, it causes more problems then when you started that are even more painful and harder to be free from... Yea thats a no."

06/10/2012: Charlotte from Denton, Tx replies: "Trimming might be still be okay, as long as the hair is not shaved low enough to grow inwards, and washing is okay if the soap is not antibiotic; try to keep it away from the urethra and vaginal opening."

[YEA]  01/10/2008: Humberto : "I had a cyst behind my ear. I would pop it and white stuff came out that smelled really bad.

1. I cut a clove of garlic and smeared the juice on it.

2. I put a cut clove on it with a band aid and left it on for 15 minutes.

3. I minced the garlic and put some juice on it.

(DANGER) 4. I made garlic paste with extra virgin olive oil. Crushed/minced up garlic, add extra virgin olive oil. Put it in a glass jar. It turns into a paste (like jam or jelly). I left it on for 1 hour. I made a mistake. I should had left it on for only 15 minutes. I burned my skin.

WARNING: Only leave it on for 15 minutes. The cyst is gone. The garlic killed it."

[SIDE EFFECTS]  06/01/2011: Leah from Toronto, Select replies: "I have a cebacious cyst on my back and tried a crushed garlic clove on it but it stung and burned my skin (I have sensitive skin). I'm now using a turmeric paste which is slowly but surely flattening the cyst."

General Feedback

12/04/2011: Peacce7 from New York: "Dermatologist drained this cyst 1 week ago I have been washing the area with antibacterial soap and applying an ointment she prescribed and taking antibiotics I have been wearing a band aid on top of the area. This morning I removed the band aid and the skin came off the cyst area which is on top of my nose all of this white stuff started coming out I cleaned the hole with peroxide and I used the antibacterial soap. I applied the ointment and covered again. Have you ever had a cyst on top of your nose that left a hole? What did you do?"

06/21/2013: Reputa La Beauta from Springfield, Ma replies: "I have had a few cysts in different places.... My nose being one of them. It formed in between the outer part of the nostril, like where it can flare. I thought it was a regular zit. I tried to pop it and It became so huge I went to the ER where they left me to sit with an ice pack because I didn't have insurance. I left and went home, called out of work and spent my evening studying it, trying to pop it putting hot compresses on it. It became huge and inflamed. The next day it was so filled up it was causing me not to be able to see outta my eye because the puss had spread into my cheek making it swollen. All I could do was examine it. I noticed what appeared to be like three little blackheads near where the head would come out if it were to appear, so not being able to take the agony anymore, I went into the bathroom and I stabbed the three little black spots with a needle, then pressed my cheek towards my nose and to my suprise.... Lime green puss came pouring out. I guess you could say I drained it myself by pressing and pushing all the puss out till I couldn't get anymore. It look like a half hour. I had the hottest water running and just let it drain into the sink. Once it was done I put neosporin on the open parts where I stabbed it and went about my day. For about a week I could feel a hollowness from where all the puss came out of. I could push on the area and it would stay indented from my cheek all the way to my nose. It's been about 8 years since that happened and I never got medical attention for it, so I fear it may return, but my luck has been good thus far. It didn't leave a hole, but it was the closest story I had that could relate;)"

11/06/2011: Lau.ah.pek from Tiong Bharu, Singapore: "Roughly 20 years ago, it was like a small mole at my right butt, near the anus area.

Now at age 80, it is may be the size of a match box or a small bar of soap. It is somewhat hard with a softy middle if I press. No pain, but sitting on it long enough like an hour watching tv, it is painful.

Is it serious?
Is it an abscess?
What the heck is it?

Someone online said that for his case, he cut himself and dipped his butt on a
warm salty water to remove the swelling.

Ted from Bangkok, hmm, is there any other safer alternative?"

11/07/2011: Jen from Bozeman, Mt, Us replies: "You should go see a doctor for this. It sounds very serious. Any mole that has grown that large is not something you should try to treat yourself. The general rule is if the mole is larger than a pencil eraser, has changed color, or is painful then you should go to a specialist to have it checked for cancer. Find out if it is cancer and then come back and ask EC what options you have. That way you know what your battle plan should be rather than guessing and possibly causing yourself more harm."

11/12/2011: Yow_whaz_up from Chinatown, Singapore replies: "Dear Lau.Ah.Pek,

If it lasts some 60 years, I don't think it is something as bad as cancer. If it was cancer, it would have been very much bigger than a small match box, like a soccer ball. Additionally, it would have been extremely stressful to the body to the point of needing hospitalisation.

The fact that you can live reasonably well that long suggests may be it is some trapped bodily fluids.

Long time ago, a friend had some fluids bulging out behind his neck. The doctor cut a bit and pumped out the liquid. Not the nicest thing but it solved the problem.

That's probably what you need to do. I can't think of anything else. It's a pity no one else, particularly the EC experts like Bill and Ted, is offering any simpler help. Probably after the Bangkok flood eases.

I hope this thread will not get buried too deep in the list and become forgotten. Hopefully God will send help to you Sir soon. Keep checking this thread for update."

11/16/2011: Mahathir from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia replies: "Ah, uncle Lau.Ah.Pek,

I think your blood is dirty. That could be "bisul" / abscess / boil. It always appear at the "burit" / buttock.

I don't know how to cure it scientifically but I will phone my "nenek" / grandmother at the "kampung" / village for some traditional Malay remedy.

I'll be back."

11/16/2011: Haw See Lang from Kuching, Sarawak, East Malaysia replies: "Dear Lau kong-kong (grandpa),

Hydrogen Peroxide

[YEA]  08/21/2008: Carolyn from Abilene, Tx: "3% Hydrogen Peroxide cured a sebaceous cyst that I usually have to go to a dermatologist to have surgically removed once every 10 years as it reoccurs. I used 3% H202 on a q-tip daily rubbing it for several minutes prior to bedtime. The cyst became sore, then developed a pustule on top of it. Eventually that broke and started oozing. I felt a piece of skin protruding from the edge of the cyst and started pulling at it after I did the treatment each day. Eventually a piece of weird feeling skin came out of the cyst as I was pulling. I continued the treatment and as the cyst shrunk more, another piece of skin stuck out and when I pulled, the remainder of the sac came out, which had been the protruding skin! The cyst is gone with no hair loss or incisions and a cost of less than $1! The hair around the cyst area did turn a lighter shade of color due to the peroxides bleaching properties, but that was no problem. It feels great to be able to comb my hair or go to my hairdresser without this cyst being in the way. I don't know if it will return, it usually takes 6 years to start forming again, but I'll start the treatment as soon as it starts next time."

[YEA]  03/21/2010: Jan from Downers Grove, Il replies: "I had a similar experience to Carolyn of Abilene. I suffer from cysts on my scalp, but having the dr. cut them out only causes another to grow, within a couple of days, so I quit going. Finally, it grew very large, and one day I noticed it was draining a tad, so I began squeezing on it, over several days. It would only drain tiny bits, then it became so tender, I knew it was infected, so I started applying regular Hydrogen Peroxide with a cotton ball. It was much better by the next day, and over time, it would drain, eventually I would feel something sticking out and tug on it. This took several days, till finally a white sac would pop out when I pulled. Days later, a smaller sac emerged, then days later, an even tinier one! That was 9 months ago, and it has not grown back, which is amazing to me, but I never realized that it was the hydrogen peroxide that was the key, till I came across Carolyn's post on this site. I am so very grateful, because I know this will be a problem again one day, as my dad and brother suffer from this ailment as well. I cannot wait to share this with them! My dad gets several cut off of his scalp at least once a year! I am so very grateful for this site!"

05/02/2012: Dkong from Provo, Ut replies: "How long does it take for the hydrogen peroxide treatment to work for getting rid of the cyst?"

[YEA]  05/05/2012: Alex from Houston, Texas replies: "I've been using hydrogen peroxide 3% on my sebaceous cyst, which started at an inch diameter for about a month now. It's working very well, and I've been getting pretty much the behavior described where weird white skin is getting slowly removed over time. At some point, my hair follicle got unclogged, and even though I'm not supposed to, I squeezed a whole lot of fibrous white stringy material that looked and smelled like ricotta cheese. It was quite a bit more than I was expecting! It's completely flat now, although I know the sac is just beneath the surface. I'm just continuing to apply the hydrogen peroxide solution daily and letting it continue to work its magic."

[YEA]  02/27/2010: Jack from Scranton, Pa: "Periapical Cyst: Eliminate it with Gauze, Water, Oil Pulling, Garlic Oil, Tumeric

A Periapical Cyst is formed after trapped puss cannot escape through the infected tooth's abscess, and instead finds a path into the jaw and cheek near the tooth abscess origin. The cyst usually gets quite large, expanding the cheek outward, putting pressure on the mouth and face. Until the puss finds a way out, it will remain. A possible cause is infection from biting down hard on the weak tooth, or through a narrow opening in the abscessed tooth.

For a whole week I suffered with this type of cyst, making my cheek look bloated as though I had a very thick slice of salami between my jaw and inside cheek. It hurt on touch, and made my lower face nerves numb from the pressure. It was a bit embarrassing in public, but my health was most important, as this can sometimes be life threatening if it moves too far into the face or down the neck. Once you see the puss, you'll know why.

The day it finally broke, that morning, I decided to stuff a Gauze pad into my mouth throughout the day, to even out the look of my distorted face. By afternoon, the puss finally found a way out of my cheek tissue, through a tiny blister hole it pressed against, just above my lower jaw gum-line. Once the flow began, I carefully massaged out the rest, spitting out the salty, yellow-green puss and blood into the sink and rinsing with a glass of 50% hydrogen peroxide/ 50% water mix to disinfect the mouth.

I didn't have to use the scalpel, thanks to the gauze pad, stuffed into my upper cheek just above the infected tooth on the lower jaw. The pad was small enough to fit in my mouth, but large enough to press constantly against the cheek tissue from 10 AM to 2:30 PM that day only to my surprise. The gauze was very irritating to my inner cheek, and swelling began at 11 AM. By 2 PM, to the point the swelling of my cheek tissue was pushing against and almost over my lower teeth. By 2:30 PM, a hole broke through the blister on its own and the puss began seeping out. (Read below for the full story). To say I was pleased this worked was an understatement, as I was about to give up.

If you have an tooth abscess and a cyst filled with puss in your cheek, try this:

1. Firm GAUZE PAD (or paper towel will work) folded near the problem tooth, against the cheek with the swelling and puss pocket. Gauze or paper towel absorb moisture and add constant wet pressure to the infected cheek, to help it form an outlet blister where nothing had been before the Gauze Pad was added.

2. Regular use of
OIL PULLING as suggested on this site. I used Virgin Olive Oil and Canola Oil. Also, swishing with Hydrogen Peroxide and Water mix, and brushing with Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate) helps too, drawing out toxins.

Tumeric Capsules or Tumeric powder to reduce swelling at first. Once you put in the Gauze Pad though, any later swelling is a good sign if it's building inside your mouth's cheek tissue, gums. This indicates it's trying to for a blister to escape through, as it was unable to make it through the cavity tooth.

4. Garlic Oil soft-gels, Liver Cod Oil softgels (A and D), Vitamin C, Multi-Vitamins are helpful to your body. Vitamin A treats the skin. I took a few more than suggested.

5. Water. If you're 200 pounds, I suggest 100 Fluid ounces of water per day (under a gallon). Water reduces infection. Imagine not drinking water, how will the infection leave your body if your organs are drying out, unable to flush infection from your body? If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated. Drink plenty of water, just don't over do it as it could kill.

. Eggs. Eggs provide amino acids, omega fatty acids, protein, vitamins, etc. An egg helps provide plenty of nutrition for growth and health. Chicks thrive on the yolk especially. The yolk is key. Cooked or eat as you like.

After that, It could take as little as one day for the blister to form, or longer, depending on your intake of the ingredients. Altogether, I only used the Gauze Pad for about five hours before it opened up a blister in my inner cheek for the puss to escape. Of course, the week of taking the other ingredients no doubt played a role, but nothing sped up the process as fast as the Gauze Pad that final day to my surprise.

ORIGINAL SYMPTOMS, CAUSE and detailed SOLUTION: 7 days plus 1 day cured:

Friday night, I bit down hard on a slice of pizza, and intense, sharp pain shot down my
cavity tooth. About fifteen minutes, the pain eased up mostly, but by evening that day, there would be no sleep. Throughout all day Saturday, the non-stop excruciating throbbing intensified full force, and the tooth was very sore to the touch, followed quickly by a fever including the chills, weakness, sore throat and congestion, but no vomiting or diarrhea. And I had a numb feeling on my lower lip and chin, which was slowly spreading to my right cheek.

From experience, I covered myself in heavy blankets and stuck my head over an oil filled radiator space heater, putting life on hold. Staying so hot that I "sweat out" the illness, with more water than I normally drink (2 gallons over 1 day) and plenty of replenishing vitamin C and A, D, and Calcium, with sunny side up eggs. By Sunday night at 6 PM, the fever was mostly gone; no more sore throat, weakness, chills or throbbing tooth.

Having not slept and barely eaten for two days in a row, the absence of pain allowed some shut eye, for 2 hours sprints, as I'd wake up with intense thirst. I continued drinking, but by that evening, the numbness in my face was continuing into the night, followed by swelling of my chin, and finally the right lower jaw of my face. The inflamed cheek expanded about 3/4" from where it normally rests.

Sunday throughout the entire day, I kept a warm wet compress rag held with my hand against my cheek and after seeing on EarthClinic that
Tumeric reduces inflammation, I went out to the store and stocked up on the powder and the capsules (which are more tolerable to ingest). Also on pure Olive Oil for oil pulling/swishing, plenty of odorless garlic softgels, more vitamin C, cod liver oil softgels, and multivitamins.

I tried it all, and the swelling finally went down by the next morning (mostly thanks to the compress and Tumeric), but it was time to go to work with a huge Periodical Cyst/facial lump on my cheek, still filled with puss trapped under the tooth
. I discovered quickly, food going into the tooth wasn't the issue, but when I first bit down on it, that caused trauma to the lower right jaw nerves, resulting in numbness and puss infection beneath the tooth root. Having no way out through the tooth, the puss found a path into my lower cheek bone and tissue. The lump was very firm, but didn't hurt much, but the pressure on my lips was heavy. I could barely smile.

That Monday, I felt very tired having not slept, and weak, so I attempted to sleep all day and continue with the treatment. By Tuesday, the swelling had not even shrunk an inch, and I had to go to work.

Continuing this all week, it finally turned to Friday night once again, and this thing was still on my face. I'm normally embarrassed by such things as this, so that night, I decided to put a GAUZE pad in my mouth to balance out the protruding bump, stuffing it just above the now swollen lower jaw. "Looks more even with my face", I thought.
Saturday morning, I could see swelling inside my cheek, so I replaced the Gauze with a new one and almost gave up as I drove up to the hospital, then decided to follow my instinct, and drove away. I was going to try and cut a hole in there and save the money. Throughout the day, I picked up groceries and shopped for foods that would feed the bones in my teeth, not sap away the calcium from them like so many junk foods. From 10 AM to 2 PM, the gauze was becoming more irritating against my inner cheek, swelling more than it had all week. At 2:30 PM,
just as I got home, something wonderful happened. I tasted a very unfamiliar, salty, foul substance in my mouth. I stopped the car and glanced in the mirror, seeing a big ball of yellow-green puss sapping out of my cheek tissue just near the gum-line. Thrilled, I began spitting out over six tablespoons of puss and blood, carefully pressing on the cyst to allow more to follow out. Inside, I immediately rinsed my mouth with hydrogen peroxide/water mix, to cleanse the mouth. An hour later of this continued treatment, the lump is completely void of puss, though it is still slightly swollen having gone through such abuse. My face is back to normally thankfully and I'm convinced all that work finally paid off, mere minutes before I was going to "cut a hole inside my mouth" from the misery. Absolute relief and joy, with some apprehension it could always return.

Having learned a lesson of a lifetime, I will no longer take my teeth for granted. I have been reading much on "
Curing Tooth Decay", and will eat properly once more. A man named Doctor Price, back in 1936, wrote a dental health book about various isolated villages across the world who ate rye bread, eggs, cod liver oil, butter, cheese, some greens, and milk from grass fed cows, and they were immune to tooth decay. Alternatively, he discovered that many in America, who ate mostly white bread and sugar with skim milk, suffered from many cavities and teeth that had trouble fitting in their narrow jaws, despite brushing and flossing everyday. You can find out more online with a search for "Cure tooth decay"."

It was benign, the size of a grapefruit, & was an outpt procedure, Was sent home with drains & Oxy-contin. Detoxed self off that, & came through well with the drains meaning little scarring. 6 mos. later I was to return for the same procedure on the left arm, but refused as the right was beginning to swell again. Hence, SURGERY DOESN'T WORK FOR A SYSTEMIC CONDITION. What does?? Every thing mentioned in this blessed site so far! Especially the ACV-Epsom Salt, & Kosher/Sea Salt. Messy as hell, but very healing. Paper tape as well when draining, as it took me years to find a solution to ripped-off skin. Also, Curry powder which contains Turmeric, at night, but it can stain so be careful. Then, Campho-Phenique after bathing can catch new erupts early and stop them, especially in the groin area. Hot compresses of Golden Seal/Burdock/Slippery Elm herbal tea are also effective, but on thin skin they are indeed painful - had to take several shots of liquor before applying - BUT, 30 YEARS LATER THERE'S BEEN NO RECURRANCE TO THE AREA AT THE TIP OF MY COCCYX BONE. Good luck all, will write back soon...Jessy"

[YEA]  04/17/2008: FT from Ridgewood, NJ: "Comment to Robert: THANK YOU for posting about your "adult acne!" Beginning at 11 years old I got pilonidal cysts at the base of my spine (tailbone) which I suffered with all through my school years. The inflammation, swelling and pain was excruciating. I rode a schoolbus to school and it was pure torture. I didn't want to tell anyone I was suffering with this condition as I was embarrassed as a child. When I went off to college I finally was seen by a doctor who operated and removed the cyst. I haven't had another since in that location but beginning shortly thereafter, I started getting cysts in my armpits. These cysts, which I still get, sound exactly like your "adult acne" condition. One doctor wanted to remove all of my sweat glands under my arms. Another just used to cut them open and let them drain, only to return again after healing. In the past 10 years I have developed Lichen Simplex Chronicus in my groin area which also "flares up" frequently and is accompanied by a painful cyst in the area. And last year I developed athlete's foot accompanied by toenail fungus of my right big toe. I AM FALLING APART! I have never, ever had athlete's foot until last year. At the same time I developed a weird scale on the side of my head that I at first thought was dandruff, but is something much worse than normal dandruff. It's oily and crusty and builds up very quickly! I tell you all of this to show you how I believe all of these conditions are connected/related to fungus. Oh, I also suffer with severe sinusitis during allergy season (now) and through the summer and fall. I really think this is all related. I am otherwise a healthy person (ha!) or at least I thought I was! Now I see that this is all the doing of one culprit - FUNGUS! I am going to try your formula and will let you know how it works. I'm very glad I found this site!"

01/20/2008: Robert from Naples, Florida replies: "Robert's Fungus Saga – Vicks Update

Part One: Feet

Q. Do the ingredients (camphor, eucalyptus, thymol, menthol) work?

A. I've applied the solution on my nails as well as to my entire foot to get rid of all the fungus that might eventually cause a reoccurrence. The results were obvious after 4-5 days:

first, the athlete's foot symptoms between my toes rapidly got better and were healed in about a week.

Then, at the seven-day point lots of skin started sloughing off all over my feet where the fungus was obviously in hiding -- including the heal callus. I was surprised to see so much sloughing of the skin around the base, sides and top of the toe nails -- this area apparently had been deeply affected by the fungus, but just looked like tough skin that I had become accustomed to expect.

Within 2-3 weeks the unaffected new toe nails could be seen at the cuticle. Now, several months later, there is a clear line of demarcation between the old fungal nail, and the new clear nail. I expect that it will be 3-4 more months before all the old nail has grown out and gone.

Q. Is the formulation the right one?

A. After much research and playing kitchen chemist, I learned that coconut oil is a good anti-fungal as well as a great emollient. DMSO doesn't need to be at 25% concentration. 10-15% is sufficient. Oregano Oil is composed of Thymol and University of Western Australia research proved tea tree oil's anti-fungal capability, so I added it as well. The essential oil amounts are at least or a little more than what bio-chemists call the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). The formulation I like and use now is:

Revised Formula
1 part Menthol oil
1 part Thymol oil or Oregano oil
1 part Camphor oil
1 part Lemon Eucalyptus oil
2 parts Tea Tree Oil
2 parts DMSO
12 parts Virgin Coconut Oil

There is probably a synergistic (i.e. harmonious working together) effect of anti-fungal herbs, which has been demonstrated in several studies. In one test of ten plant species whose oils were anti-fungal, researchers noted that "combinations of the anti-fungal essential oils increased their activity remarkably." In a similar study, researchers stated that "in all the oil combinations, the anti-fungal potency was found to increase over individual oils."

Part Two: Adult "Acne"

This is where the "saga" starts to get interesting. After my adolescent acne should have cleared up 35 years ago, it got slowly worse. All over the bearded part of my face, what appeared to be sacs of hardened oil under the surface of the skin had been forming nodules. These didn't get infected,'each just grew larger. Over the years I've seen dermatologists who said, because of my otherwise great health, "you're just a middle aged adolescent," blaming it on high testosterone, etc. The apparent acne problem continued and worsened.

I've seen doctors, dermatologists, pharmacists, herbalists, laser specialists, and spiritual healers. I've bought every acne ointment known to man. I took pills, vitamins, and herbs. I changed diet. I get plenty of exercise. Nothing worked. I had extensive surgery to correct the problem three years ago, and within 18 months it looked just as bad as before. As a public speaker and author in my profession, the skin condition was emotionally upsetting and stressful.

Having conquered toe nails, I started researching down the path that maybe the acne was caused by a fungus (although the symptoms didn't look like my feet). Was I surprised when I found:

" Tinea barbae is a superficial dermatophyte infection that is limited to the bearded areas of the face and neck and occurs almost exclusively in older adolescent and adult males. Symptoms include inflammatory, deep, kerion-like plaques and noninflammatory superficial patches and lumps resembling bacterial folliculitis. The hair breaks off below the skin surface. It is caused by several dermatophytes. Trichophyton species are most common. Infection of bearded skin may be the result of autoinoculation from tinea pedis or onychomycosis."

In other words, the mess on my face that had caused me so much grief and been misdiagnosed for decades was caused by the same fungus that gave my feet a problem.

Apparently the dermatophytes enter the hair follicle (nails and hair are similar biological structures), then attack the sebaceous gland, feeding off the body oil; then the body's immune system reacts with scaring and hardening the facial oil, leaving an oil nodule. The dermatophytes then migrate to the next follicle, and eventually dozens of affected follicles link as a nodule the size of a pea.

Now it became obvious what had happened: The athlete's foot I got as a teenager went to my toe nails, and, because I was ignorant of the relationship of using a towel on my face that might have been used on my feet or crotch, the fungus got transferred.

Not a single dermatologist who examined my face ever bothered to ask the question: "Do you have toe nail fungus or athlete's foot!"

Using the same solution on my facial outbreaks as on my toe nails (the revised formula with coconut oil), the facial condition is clearing up. Just like with my feet, skin is sloughing off and the nodules are beginning to eject. This is the best result I've seen in years. I expect it will take a few months for the problem to be cured, as the fungus is down below the level of the base of the hair follicle in the sebaceous gland.

Part Three: Chronic Sinusitis

For the last 15 years I've had chronic sinusitis, post nasal drip, clogged nose, etc. I was constantly clearing my throat, and sometimes coughing. I snored a lot, which my wife didn't appreciate, and the snoring actually would wake me up in the middle of the night, leaving me tired in the morning. I seemed to catch colds more easily than before, but I attributed this to my very frequent plane travel.

Doctors prescribed antibiotics, but I they did not fully cure the problem and when I stopped the treatment, every symptom returned. (And I just don't like unnatural treatments.) Others said it was allergies.

I wondered: Could my sinusitis be a fungal problem? More exploring on the internet found the answer:

In 1999 Mayo Clinic researchers found the cause of most chronic sinus infections to be an immune system response to fungus, and that this may kick off a secondary bacteriological infection. It is not an allergic reaction, but an immune reaction.

Again, I felt betrayed by the medical profession. Why hadn't anyone told me this?

I went to the health and vitamin store to look for an anti-fungal nasal spray, and nothing met my requirements or budget ($10-15 for a one ounce bottle of ingredients seemed way out of line.) Here's the formula I "invented:"

1. Rinse out a 1 ounce nasal spray bottle
2. Add one eye-dropper (approximately 1 ML) of Oregano Juice (NOT Oregano Oil –it's too strong and will not dissolve in water)
3. Add a pinch of salt (approximately ½ ML) (Iodized salt is OK
– iodine is a good anti-fungal)
4. Fill the rest of the sprayer with distilled water, and shake well until the salt is dissolved.

Spray as frequently as once an hour until symptoms subside. For me, this solution began working within an hour; most symptoms were gone in three days. And the price of the ingredients per bottle is just a few pennies.

If the oregano/saline solution is too strong for you, dilute in half with water. If you want, you can add a drop of eucalyptus oil with ½ ML of glycerin, (which will bond the oil to water). I now spray once or twice a day, just to prevent any recurrence.

A very dear friend, who is 75, has had awful sinusitis for years. He heavily cleared his throat every minute or two. I told him of this simple formula, and two days later he called me to say it was working. He then said with amazement: "I don't believe it, we've been talking for over 15 minutes and I haven't had to clear my throat once!"

There are articles and books that claim that some cancers are caused by fungus. If this is true, taking action on fungus early may be very beneficial in the long run. It's time we gave fungus a deeper analysis."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  05/19/2013: William from Chandler, Az: "20 years ago I had a cyst on my back when one day it started to hurt so I went to a Dr and he said to put a warm wash cloth and see another Doc. The wash cloth made the thing hurt like hell, and when I saw the next guy he cut and squeezed for a solid minute or 2 that hurt alot. This cyst is back to the size of a golf ball, My friend gave me oregano oil 3 weeks ago and the cyst is half the size and I believe it may be gone in a month. I apply it 3 to 4 times a day and it makes the cyst burn and feel infected for 30 minutes but then the pain and redness goes away."

04/24/2012: Sheila from Rockford, Illinois: "For anyone suffering with cysts, especially near the vagina or anus: I went to doctors for a thick mass halfway between my rectum and vagina. They told me I may have to have it surgically removed. I didn't want that so I searched the net for anything. What I found was quite surprising. OXALATES! Because I had exposure to mold and swallowed fiberglass in the air, my stomach and intestines were damaged. I developed celiacs, terrible sores on my legs, arms buttocks, sores in my mouth. Fevers, swollen lymph nodes. If I had continued to follow DRs non-advice, I KNOW I would be dead now. I was sinking fast. I stopped the gluten but still had terrible muscle aches and the cyst was getting larger and more painful. I found out about the oxalates by reading online for hours. It is in the foods that are most healthy. Spinach, nuts, green foods, sweet potatoes. I went on the low oxalate diet, took calcium citrate and magnesium citrate with my meals and b-6 200 mg a day. Low and behold the cyst began to shrink and the muscle pains started to go away. It HAS to be only the citrate of calcium and magnesium.

Now I wonder if I had this, how many other people have the same thing and don't know it. It causes eye problems, brain fog and lots of pain all over. If this is you try it, it may help you. Or you can go to a doctor and have him take years to diagnose you. I'm a nurse and it is so disappointing to see how long it takes them to figure out what is wrong with you after you spend all of the money. Good luck all! Bless you all and keep trying to find your answers! " Previous Page1 2 345Next Page Previous Page1 2 345Next Page

Pilar Cyst Remedies

02/19/2013: David Blake from Tallahassee, Fl: "My question is as follows, I have a pilar cyst in my scalp and I am looking for solutions to natural remove the cyst. It seems as though hair grows on top of the cyst and it seems pretty solid in nature. Any information would be helpful."

06/11/2012: Natrum from Flemington, New Jersey /usa: "I had a gum infection and used plantain, just chewed up a bit to get the juices out, then held the plant wad (1-2 leaves) between the cheek and gum overnight. Used it for a few nights. It drew out the infection, and was quite a relief for me. The plantain is a common "weed" you can likely find in your yard. Best to wash it off a bit first, and not source it from too close to a road."

[YEA]  02/05/2009: Madiha from Birmingham, U.K: "Suggestion about lid cysts: I lived in Pakistan for a year when I was a child. I would often get cysts, particularly in the eye area. They were quickly cured by some type of pressure plasters. These were sticky plasters and would come in a large size with many small holes pierced inside. We were given a piece cut to size, peel off the back and place on the problem area. A couple of hours later, from the painfree pressure of the plasters, the cysts would burst and that was that. I live in England now and have had a lid cyst for over two years at least and have not come across an effective cure."

Remedies for Testicular Cysts

02/11/2013: Mary from Yorks: "Hi my question is for Bill or Ted or any other expert. My friend has a cyst on both testicles. He gave up smoking which helped to a certain degree however he still has a lot of pain with them. The specialist said that if they still continued to bother him he would have to have an operation that would leave him almost certainly 95% infertile. Unfortunately they have got worse and his GP has referred him to the hospital where he says his operation will be in about one month time. I am wondering if it is possible to reduce/eliminate the cysts through diet etc I have seems some remedies on the site but none specific to testicular cysts and to be honest he doesn't really have time for trial and error remedies as he is expecting to be called next month. Any advice would be helpful."

02/14/2013: Joe from Bethel Park, Pa replies: "I would use DMSO mixed 50 / 50 with Lugol's 5% solution.

Apply it locally twice a day. Easy at first.

Be careful, DMSO should not be applied stronger than 70%"

I have also recently been told I have 3 cysts on my thyroid, and am now waiting to have a needle biopsy and also for the results of my blood tests.

I am a Flight Attendant and wonder if these problems are a result from my work, and the effects of radiation on the body. I am currently Long Haul, and often do flights up to 14hours to South Africa from Australia.

I've read with interest for many years on Earth Clinic, and now am unsure of what my main plan of attack should be? I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance."

04/28/2012: Bill from San Fernando, Philippines replies: "Hi Flyinghostie... The problems you have are:

* Thyroid cysts

* Fibroid cysts.

You are probably deficient iodine in your body and diet because these are classic symptoms of lack of dietary iodine. Here is some iodine research on thyroid and fibroid cysts and other probems which might interest you:
Iodine Deficiency
A Review of the latest Information on Iodine(2005)
Symptoms of Thyroid Problems

The best protocol for your problems would be the Iodine Protocol shown here:
Iodine Protocol with Companion Nutrients

Usually cysts can also form and proliferate because of excess calcium in the body. So cutting out all dairy in the diet and regulating calcium properly by taking higher daily doses of magnesium also should help to cut down the excess calcium in the body (Magnesium is already in the Iodine Protocol by the way). Calcium in excess also inhibits iodine uptake in the thyroid and in the body.

There is also a correlation between the mucus glands in your body and your body's cyst problems. You have mucus glands in your eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, uterus, prostate, intestines and breasts. In a healthy person who is sufficient in iodine, the mucus secreted from the mucus glands always contains sufficient iodine. Iodine in the mucus glands in the body is one of the first defenses against external attack by any pathogen. Iodine kills 90% of all pathogens -- including bacteria viruses, fungus and protozoa. So if you are lacking in iodine then pathogens will find it much easier to get past this iodine defense to invade your body. Usually people who lack iodine in their body catch every cold, flu or bug under the sun and then some!!

My own use of higher dose Lugol's for the past five years or so has had some wonderful effects. It helped me to get rid of candida, helped me to lose a lot of weight and gave me back my energy. Since studying iodine for awhile, I now know that iodine controls the development of the brain. From the research, intelligence may directly be correlated to the amount of iodine taken as a child up to the age of 6 years old during which time the brain develops.

Here is another thought which might help you in your job. I was sick and tired (literally!! ) of catching colds and flu and other bugs whenever I caught a plane to go on holiday. So here is how you can avoid this problem and protect yourself against this. Pour out a small capful of water and add about 5 drops of lugol's iodine to the water. Using a dropper, drop this solution and fill both nostrils in turn. Let it soak into the nose area for awhile and then just blow your nose. And that's it -- you now have some iodine in the mucus glands of your nose to protect you against airborn pathogens on the plane. The iodine in your nose will also sublimate and help to protect your throat and lungs as well. If you do this just before you fly then I guarantee you won't catch anything. I used to hate flying because I always caught some bug or other but now I love to fly because I always arrive healthy. This iodine method will also help sinusitis and rhinitis suffers because it rapidly kills the bacteria and the fungus which nest in your nose causing these problems."

However, the first 12 are the BASIC SALTS that our body needs and when deficient in any of these salts, we will start experiencing ailments... I have been cured from many annoying ailments like hair loss, acne, hemmorhoids, one droopy eyelid, puffy eyelids, uneven facial skin color, yeast infection etc. These Salts have helped so much and some of them right away you will experience releif... 04/28/2012: Carly from Seattle, Wa - Usa replies: "Hi. I agree with what Bill has said re taking iodine. Iodine is amazing.

I just want to add that you may also want to google "serrapeptase". I just started taking 40,000 iu of it 3x a day (on an empty stomach) for the past week and am VERY impressed with it.

Serrapeptase is good for so many ailments - when you read about it you will think it must be snake oil, it just sounds too good to be true! It breaks down fibrin, and thus eats away bad / scar / cyst type tissue.... oh heck, you simply must google it because I could never explain it well enough.

Good Luck, Carly"

04/22/2012: Sara from Sacramento, Ca, Usa: "Hello, There is a cyst as big as the size of a pea that is growing inside of my Vagina, and it does not have pain, but when I pee, I feel a burning sensation. I do not have health insurance. Please let me know what I need to do at this point."

04/25/2012: Jennifer from Sunrise, Fl, Usa replies: "Sara, these symptoms can be from a number of different problems.

One possibility is chlamydia - I know you don't have health insurance, but in most states you can be checked at a local state-run health clinic for free or go to your local Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood only charges you a reasonable fee on a sliding scale based on your household income.

There are also a number of causes for vaginal cysts and the good news is is that most of them are benign. There are inclusion cysts, Bartholin cysts (which are often a result of chlamydia or gonnorhea), or the worst case/least likely scenario, cancer.

The fact that you are also having burning while urinating raises another red flag for chlamydia. If you have had sexual relations since the last time you were checked for chlamydia, I would get checked again, even if you just need it for peace of mind. You can still get it even if you are careful and use protection. Like I said before, you can get checked for free or very cheap, even without health insurance, and it's no big deal at all, chlamydia can be cleared up quite easily with a round of antibiotics. It sounds scary, but it's actually the most common sexually transmitted disease in the US and it's 100% curable. However, if you don't treat it, chlamydia can lead to some very serious problems, including infertility.

If you rule out chlamydia as a possibility, you really should try to get checked out at a doctor. I know that without health insurance it's hard (trust me I know! I just had an emergency appendectomy and had no health insurance), but depending on your financial circumstances, you might qualify for some kind of public assistance. Depending on your financial circumstances, hospital and medical bills can also be negotiated. Your health is worth it.

Good luck to you, Jennifer"

I have a question about a couple of cysts I have and am hopefully looking to get some good advice on how to maybe get rid of them. I don't have insurance and I don't want to deal with surgery, so I'm wondering if there's a different way to deal with this.

I have 2 cysts, although I'm not sure what kind they are I've never had them looked at. One is just above my elbow on my right arm, the other is well.... On the left side of my penis. Not the most attractive thing. They're both painless and aren't red or swollen or anything, and I've had them both for 5 years. I'm just wondering what type they are, they're both very dark, like a dark green/vein color. I'm not sure what to do about them, I've read up on using heating packs, castor oil and DMSO/Iodide. But without knowing what Type of cysts they are I'm not sure there's much I can do. Any advice really helps, as I'm trying to avoid the doctor and surgery at all costs."

The paper says eradicate with Idone 50 mg/day (I've been taking that for months already), and Niacinamide 1000 mg/day, and Riboflavin 300 mg/day. Hope this helps someone, I've always had success with whatever insight she offers."

05/31/2012: Genevieve from Yachats, Or replies: "To Felix in Belleview, Florida, re PILONIDAL CYST (located at the drainage pores at the base of the spine):

I know it's been half a year since you posted, and presumably you no longer have a pilonidal cyst, but based on my experience, you may get others from time to time. I've had a lot of this type of cyst during the last 40 years. The first one I had surgically removed. After that, I figured out how to deal with them--easily and inexpensively.

If you notice an itch at the base of your spine, immediately apply vitamin E, and keep reapplying until the itch is gone. If you didn't notice the initial itch and a cyst has now formed, apply French green clay (presumably any clay will work because it will draw out the "juice" from the cyst). Reapply as necessary. Once the itch or pain is gone, apply vitamin E to help it heal.

Peace Love Joy & Harmony!"

09/04/2011: Oscar from Syracuse, New York, Usa replies: "Dear Jay, Have you discussed this cyst with a doctor ? It seems to me that such a cyst as you described has a very good chance of being successfully treated with a fairly simple and safe surgical removal. There are some conditions where surgery is the best alternative in my opinion. From what you described I would at least consult a qulified doctor and find out what he or she has to say about this.

Such a surgery may very well only require a local anesthetic....Oscar"

09/07/2011: Fooch from Tucson, Az replies: "I had a pilonidal cyst myself that I just cured without surgery. While I don't think what you have is a pilonidal cyst as they are always from what I know at the region of the gluteal cleft. Being a Physician Assistant, I injected it with some lidocaine and made an incision with a scalpel. I would have took it out fully if I could reach enough :) Don't worry, I know most are going to do, but for the sake of being complete I will tell you what I tried. What I feel will work will come later. I did this twice and sat in the bathtub daily for a couple weeks with H202 and Epsom Salts. I do think that the incision did help by opening the cyst up and enabaled it to dry out. I also used what is called a zapper, nightly. Whether you get it for this or not, it might be something worth looking into, it has all kinds of uses.

What I would try first is what I did daily for about 6-8 weeks and that is apply some Bentonite Clay to it. I did it once a day. If I was to do it again, I would do it am and pm. It has drawing properties to it. When I put it on my face, the next day, it's not uncommon to have one or two small pimples arise. Currently, I am doing a 28 day detox and part of that program is drinking this type of clay as it pulls the impurities from the body, including heavy metals. I believe this is what made the most difference. The odd thing is that since it always drawing it out and shrinking it, you don't feel any progress made. Although, I did feel as though at times the mass of the cyst (the wall of it) was getting smaller, but it was always proud (sticking out). Then one day I woke and applied it again, it was gone. I did a few more times after and there's no raised area at all. Even when it was asymptomatic, I could still feel it a little. But not now.

If anyone has a pilonidal cyst, in the area it is, if you do want to have someone numb you up with some lidocaine and just make an incision the with of it and deep (about an inch), it really is rather easy. Although, for the lay person, it is probably going to be nerve racking. There is no major arteries or nerves in this region to worry about. Grab an anatomy book if you like. Nerves around the sacrum are deeper."

10/05/2010: Nichole from Ventura, Ca: "I have been dealing with this cyst in my mouth/jaw for about 3 years now.. I recently noticed it was getting bigger and went to get the biopsy done. I was diagnosed with an odontogenic cyst but consideration of a unicystic ameloblastoma but no evidence of malignancy. I have looked everywhere for an oral surgeon to remove the cyst/tumor but can not find anyone in my area that is covered by my insurance. I want to try the natural way. What is recommended? I will do just about anything to notice any shrinkage fast. The front part of the cyst is eating at my roots of the teeth and dont want to loose any more roots. Please help."

09/06/2011: Ladybyrdsmom from Ventura, Ca, Usa replies: "Hi there,

So I live in Ventura and Had my whole entire jaw removed because of an ameloblastoma. I noticed you made this post last year but if you have questions about it please feel free to contact me. I went through it and am happy to answer any questions."

10/07/2011: Josephine from Selangor, Malaysia replies: "Hi there, I am from Malaysia, a country in South east Asia.

I have just seen an article (in indonesian language) about an Indonesian woman who got cured from ameloblastoma by consuming sea cucumber (gamat).

I am actually searching for an alternative therapy for a friend with the same problem."

10/13/2011: Nichole from Ventura, Ca replies: "To: ladybyrdsmom from Ventura

I have just been through the ringer with this whole situation. I have been to so many maxillofacial surgeons and either they are not capable of doing the surgery or they are not convered by my insurance. Where did you go to get it done? I am just sitting here in limbo trying to do the natural way. What happened with your jaw, did they somehow build a new jaw.. How are you today after all this? how big was yours. I would love a personal email if possible."

07/20/2010: Tricia from Ireland: "I am looking for information on the best route to take to get rid of a painful and debilitating baker's cyst. All replies gratefully received - Tricia."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED]  03/08/2014: Iteach5 from Virginia Usa replies: "I, too, have developed a Baker's cyst. Because I was walking abnormally, I subsequently developed inflammation in both feet, misaligned back, and painful leg cramps. After hobbling for two months, I finally saw my chiropractor last week (who is also a herbalist). He diagnosed my problem, did adjustments to my knee, and recommended chondroitin and boswellia 4 times a day. He also recommended massage therapy and ion cleanse which I haven't yet pursued. Within a week, my cyst had reduced in size from one inch in diameter to about one-third of an inch. Last night I had a fall, so now I'm back to square one with ice packs and elevation of leg. I'll post again later to update my progress."

06/02/2010: Addy from Flowery Branch, Ga: "I love this website! I've tried a few remedies already and I'm TOTALLY excited!

I'm bumping this post in hopes that someone out there reads this and can offer any info on cysts on the outer thigh. You don't see anything, you just feel it. I've had one for a few years now, not really bothersome but I'd rather it not be there! Have noticed a couple more have popped up in the last year.

Just throwing this out: I had 2 ganglion cysts removed from my wrist a few years back and the leg cyst feels pretty much like the gangs in my wrist. Do ganglion cyst pop up anywhere else besides the wrist?

Also, I have cystic fibroids in my breasts since forever. Is it possible that any of this maybe related? I'm looking into
the iodine defiency to see if it helps.

04/19/2010: Lucy from Sleepy Hollow, New York: "I have a friend whose son keeps getting ear tumors. Are there any remedies that can prevent this from happening again, my friend is tired of paying for surgeries every other year."

03/11/2010: Sara from The Beach, Canada: "I have a open request for help with cysts. Does anyone have an opinion as to what causes them? I get them on my legs, mostly upper and on top, not where I sit. They are under the skin. I assume they are sebaceous cysts and they sometimes itch. I also have Hidradenitis Suppurativa, but this is not HS. I'd like to know if something I eat promotes their growth or appearance. Doctors just shrug and say they dont know much about them. Any feed back would help. Thanks."

10/16/2009: Beth from Missouri, Us: "I woke up this morning and there is a painful bump on the back of my neck just below my hairline. It is very sensitive, at first I felt like the whole back of my neck was bruised, then I felt this little bump. It's about the size of a pencil eraser and I can feel it under the skin, kind of feels like a cyst. Doesn't feel like a normal pimple, too painful and it's more like a small knot under the skin. It concerns me because it hurts so much. Any ideas what it could be? What I could treat it with? I washed it with castille soap and tea tree oil this morning in the shower. Thanks."

08/22/2009: Barron from Sarnia, On, Canada: "I have a cysts in my neck.. causes my left side of my throat to hurt.. have to get it removed.. but I am working to much right now to take the time off.. does anyone know what I could take to get rid of it, or to ease the pain and swelling?"

08/23/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hello Barron from Sarnia,

Have you tried painting the area (skin) over those cysts in your neck? If not, just paint tincture of iodine (
or SSKI or Lugol's solution) can also be used). I would just do this daily (if the iodine disappears very quickly, you might try doing it morning & night until the iodine color remains on the skin longer)."

08/07/2009: Michelle from Lubbock, Tx: "Does anyone know how to cure a baker's cyst and to relieve great pain?"

Salt Crystal Deodorant

[YEA]  07/10/2013: Littlegoslings from Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, Usa: "Remedy for Sebaceous Cyst - salt crystal deodorant

My latest sebaceous cyst, right in the middle of my back over my spine, went away in a week with a combination of 1 initial treatment of a triple antibiotic ointment (readily available OTC) and then regular daily or semi-daily applications of the salt deodorant product I use for my underarms, the natural one in crystal form. It worked great. I got my wife or daughter to apply the crystal salt deodorant product right after a hot shower when my pores were open and my back was still wet. After only 4-5 uses of the salt stone, the cyst is all but gone. I can only credit intuition for the idea to use the crystal stone.

As has been said, in the past I also tried to poke and drain them (with help because they always occur on my back) but they are very hard, very painful, and do not lend to draining. Nothing like a pus filled boil or an infection that becomes numb over time, like a cuticle. A sebaceous cyst can be large, sensitive and very painful to touch, never mind to stab and squeeze! My wife loves to stab and squeeze the things, but I guess there's some repressed anger there. It hurts like hell and does almost no good.

I have had a hard time with sebaceous cysts. My first one, about 12 years ago, was a mystery to me. I thought it was a spider bite or something, and I ended up in the ER, getting VERY painful anesthesia injections (yeah, anesthesia, go figure! ) and then a painless (due to the anesthesia) lancing and cleaning of the cyst. Of course the ensuing charges were far from painless.

Since then I have had at least 2 more. Usually they happen if I don't shower every day, and honestly, I don't always. Another contributing factor, which I found out the hard way, is using a wash cloth in the shower without soap. If I drag a wet wash cloth over my back without using soap (let's say I'm in a hurry and I only soap wash my face, crotch and pits) the bacteria or whatever that grows in the humid bathroom environment is almost sure to get into my skin and I end up with a cyst."

Saltwater Rinse

06/07/2012: Suzzz from Lexington, Sc: "I have developed a cyst above my upper molars. Have gone to the ENT and had a CT scan... They are sending me to the oral surgeon. Any suggestions? Making pastes and applying bandaids will not work, given the location. :)"

06/08/2012: British from Long Island, Ny replies: "I'm not sure if this will work for a cyst but it works for an abcess. Rinse your mouth with very salty warm water. With each mouthful, swosh it around for as long as you can stand it. Spit and repeat. I've had a broken tooth with a big hole in it for 3 yrs and will get it taken care of eventually but for now, anytime I get pain and it swells up I rinse with salt water. The salt seems to draw out whatever is in there which will ease the pressure and the pain. I've never tried this on a cyst since mine have always been on my body. One thing that did work for the cyst on my wrist was a magnetic bracelet. This was a lot less painful that the 2 times it was popped before. Hope the salt helps. Good luck." Previous Page123 4 5Next Page

Silver Gel, Turmeric, Garlic

[YEA]  06/28/2008: CW from Asheville, NC: "I've had sebaceous cysts all my life. Of late, I got one that came to the surface, burst, and got infected. It was awful, and after 6 weeks of not healing with antibiotic cream it was time to try something new. So I did this: I cleaned the wound again with peroxide. I then did one round of moxibustion on it. I used drawing salve for one day to get some of the deep infection out. I then began to put a bandaid with silver gel, turmeric, and a thin slice of fresh cut garlic on it twice a day as well as taking garlic and

turmeric internally in gelcaps. It is now 50% healed in only 3 days. Amazing."

I put a few drops of Tea Tree oil on and kept it covered with a bandaid for a day (to keep the oil in place). Nothing happened for many weeks, but then it started flaking off gradually."

·                     Terramin Clay

07/07/2010: Sarah from Xenia, Oh: "I read a post that mentioned terramin clay for cysts. I cannot find any information regarding this clay on your site. I have a cyst in my jaw joint (found by an MRI). They said that it actually is keeping my jaw from being in joint until I open it far enough for it to literally clunk. They said that when it clunks it is actually going into joint. In other words, my jaw is constantly out of joint unless I yawn or open wide for another reason. Insurance will not pay for any TMJ treatment since it is not "medical". Well, I prefer more natural methods than surgery and would like to know more about how this clay works and if it would help me get rid of this cyst. I have tingling, numbness, and intermittent pain."

[YEA]  05/12/2012: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand: "I've been thinking about your boils.. As I had one after what could be referred to as a detox.. I think that the Lymph system might get overloaded, with the acumulated C@@@ leaving the body, It was more a cyst, but Tumeric and Cream of tartar got rid of it."

05/26/2012: Red from Foothills, Nc replies: "Gavin, Tell us how you used the turmeric and cream of tartar. I'm guessing you mixed them together and make a paste out of them and apply to the cyst? How often and how long did it take to get rid of the cyst? Or was it a boil, not a cyst?"

05/26/2012: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "I started off with just a teaspoon of Tumeric, then added a teaspoon of cream of tartar to it, poured in some milk, gave it a stir and drunk it all down. Then as it improved I just used Cream of tartar. The Cream of tartar seemed to kick start the healing, not the Tumeric. The sting came out of it about the second dose. I used it internaly. I got through about packet of Cream of tartar from the baking isle of the supermarket. I'm sure the boil/whitlow its something to do with the general cleaning up of the body, with the natural cleansers ive been taking. Ive only had one like that before."

Vicks Vapor Rub

[YEA]  11/08/2009: Alice from San Francisco, California: "Following (necessary) abdominal surgery five years ago, I developed a deep cyst (began 1/2 inch under the skin) at the incision site -- on a whim put Vick's on it for 3 days and the contents moved up through the tissue. 3-4 days later it came to a head (was a real medical event!) Cleaned repeatedly with alcohol, never recurred.

5-6 days ago I found a small lump in my breast, at about an inch under the surface. Hit the Vicks again and after a day and a half it started moving up, came up to various ducts at the surface -- completely gone where I had felt a solid lump. Then no movement for a couple days, a little uncomfortable. Put organic progesterone cream on it and it appears to be gradually working but I'll try some other things to move it along, thanks to this site.

Really I think it is a disgrace that this kind of quick no-harm preliminary tactic is not widely known and medically advised. I understand dog breeders are using Vick's on cysts -- why in the world don't we hear about it??!"

[NAY]  02/18/2011: Tina from Sylvania, Ohio, Usa replies: "Tried Vicks Vapor Rub on all 6 cysts for a week. Nothing happened. Oh, it's never worked for my congestion either."

Vitamin E

01/07/2011: Iris from Chicago, Il, Usa: "My 7 month old son developed a benign cyst just under the skin in the lower abdominal area. It appeared suddenly and within a week grew to tthe size of 5mm and became very red. There was no head to the cyst so I knew that it was not like a pimple. We took him to the doctor who then sent us for an ultrasound and then when he got the unltrasound results, he sent us to a plastic surgeon. I didn't want to put my baby in for surgery, yet I knew that if it got infected it could be bad, since I myself had that experience about 10 years ago and had to go into emergency surgery for a cyst on my back.

Anyway, I read here that Vitamin E oil could help so I bought a high quality natural vitamin E Oil (32, 000 iu) and rubbed it gently into the area of the cyst on my son several times a day. I have now been applying it for about 6 weeks and the cyst is almost completely gone. Now when I rub I feel a teeny bump inside that is smaller than 1mm, but it is getting smaller every day and I am fairly confident it will disappear altogether. There is still a red spot on the skin, but that seems to be getting dry sort of like a scab and I am guessing that will go away completely in time. Thank you for the posts about the vitamin E oil!!!! It worked to prevent surgery for my baby boy!! I hope my post can help others too."

[YEA]  01/19/2011: Iris from Chicago, Il replies: "I have now been applying the Vitamin E oil regularly - about once or twice a day. I just put a drop or two on my finger tip and rub it onto the spot on my son's abdomen. It is pretty much completely gone. All that is left is a little light red mark on his skin, but the bump underneath is gone. Thank you earth clinic!"

[YEA]  08/10/2009: Laura from Ventnor, Nj: "I get Bartholin's Cysts, not sure if it's from my IUD or what, but I get them. I've found that applying vitamin E directly to the cyst unclogs the pores there and brings down the swelling and pain dramatically over the period of about 12 hours. Maybe I don't eat enough vitamin E- so that's also something to look into. I use ___ brand vitamin E creme, it has something like 30,000 IU's in it. Works like a charm!"

10/10/2009: Madiha from Birmingham, U.k replies: "Hi laura, I have a lid cyst that I am trying to get rid of. i have had it for a few years now and i can appreciate it will take time to go. I have been to the store, and picked up some vitamin e oil, which is 70,000 iu. The reason I chose that one is because it was pure vitamin E. They did hav vitamin E oil, which was 30,000 iu but it was combined with other ingredients. My question is which one would you reccommend out of the two, and if your cream had other added ingredients. Plus I went for the oil opposed to the cream, because the lady in the store said it would absorb more. A little advice would be much appreciated. Also, how long before your cyst actually went away?

Look forward to hearing from you.

[YEA]  02/16/2013: Crystal from Tracy, Ca replies: "Oh my goodness. I have suffered from Bartholin's cyst for over 20 years. 15 years ago I had one reach the size of a grapefruit ended up in the emergency room with a marsupilization. I never had one again until about 2 years ago. The other side. Life is so cruel. 2 ruptured on own until I had enough. Another one. I called my OBGYN and told them I had an abscess. Unfortunatly it burst before I got there. When I arrived the on call student Dr. said she was concerned because it did not fully drain. She mentioned cancer. Saw my regular dr 2 weeks later she said not cancer keep an eye on it we will do surgery if needed. For one year I have had an uncomfortable not abcessed golf ball sized lump. Never went away. Dr. still insists surgury no cancer though. I am desperate feel like doctor knows less than I do about this.

I hit the internet. I have stuck tea bags in there bought essential oils epsom salt baths. You name it tried it. I found your reply to message board. Only one of its kind no one has mentioned it. Poured vitamin E oil on it and the gland drained before my eyes. Not the usual burst but natural drain where the gland is. Meanwhile in the last two weeks I had a ganglion cyst (also an ailment) once again surface on my hand. I bought vitamin E capsules. Took them within 24 hours hand cyst gone. Bartholin gland 3/4 of size. Vitamin E!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS YOU FOR POSTING!!!!!!!"

[YEA]  01/29/2008: Carolyn from Pittsburgh, PA: "After finding a lump in my breast, rushing to a doctor, I was told that I needed to find a surgeon, before a scan was even taken. After the scan, I was informed that it was merely a cyst and I could either have it aspirated with a needle, or just leave it, as it would cause no harm. I left it alone, and remembered being told that vitamin E can cause cysts to go away. It worked and when the cyst came back a year later, I went straight to the vitamin E bottle, and next doctor appointment, there was no signs of the cyst.I take it continually now. I am currently taking vitamin E (as d-alpha Tocopheryl Acetate) 1000 IU, but if I recall, I was taking 400 IU when my cyst dissolved"

Zinc Oxide

[YEA]  02/15/2010: Kay from Hastings, Mi, Usa: "I have light complexion and get skin rashs and irratations. When I was expecting my last child I got a small spot in the girl parts rubbed raw from an ill fitting pair of pants. It went from a raw spot to a weeping spot to a blister to a bartholin cyst.

"The Bartholin's gland is a tiny organ on each of the labia (vaginal lips), near the opening of the vagina. If the vagina were the face of a clock, these glands would be found at about 4 and 8 o'clock. Normally they are invisible. They make a small amount of fluid that lubricates the vaginal lips. If a flap of skin grows over the opening of one of the glands, the fluid backs up. It causes a round swelling called a cyst. The cyst can grow from the size of a penny to larger than an orange, although most don't get bigger than a golf ball. Cysts can be tender and hot to the touch."

I had similar incidences of this before but usually after a few days and some "set" baths it would clear up. Not so this time. When I was 7 months along Doctors did surgery to remove a golf ball piece of infection. A few months later when a similar incident happened. I was desparate to find something to clear this up. I tried everything I could think of. Finally I discovered zinc oxide ointment, which is the active white ingredient zinc diper rash ointments. Over the years I have cured many of these that could of gotten worse that the one I had surgery on. Having had that surgery left an area of scar tissue that is even more sensitive than before. I have never met a doctor that had any idea of how to treat these and I can't believe I am the only women to have this experence. Apply to the affected area when you go to bed.

Frequently it will be cleared up in the morning. The zine oxide stains everything though. The zinc needs to be applied liberally to the sore spot, keeping it completely covered. Then wear an under garment that you dont like, that isn't tight. I was twenty eight when I discovered this remedy. I am now in my 50's. Straight zinc oxide is the best. The diaper rash crean is usually about 40 % zinc."

03/12/2010: Nina from Inland Empire, Ca replies: "Dear Kay from Hastings: Thank you so much for this valuable information!!

Could you please possibly list what brands of "straight" zinc oxide ointment you have used successfully and what percentage of zinc oxide is stated in the active ingredient listing on these products. My newly married daughter has been suffering from a Bartholin Cyst for several months now. The doctor prescribed antibiotics in case the cause was an infection but it did not help. They also said hot baths twice a day, that has not helped her either. The only zinc oxide ointments I have been able to find online contain only 20% as the active ingredient, the rest is petroleum jelly and stuff. You stated the diaper rash ones contain usually 40% so you suggested using "straight" zinc oxide which I thought meant it should have a higher percentage than 40%. If there is one out there, I have not been able to find it yet. I may have misunderstood though, have I? Kay, I would greatly appreciate a list of zinc oxide ointments you feel comfortable recommending. If you would like to email me directly with that information, my email is

Thank you! Nina in California"

02/07/2011: Leigh from Indianapolis, In replies: "As far as I've found, 40% zinc oxide cream is the highest available without a prescription. I have a cyst problem too, and I've started applying Desitin at night. It's been a few days, and I'm not sure I notice a difference. But the cyst is the size of a golf ball, and so I'm hoping that it will shrink after a few more days." Previous Page1... 234 5
